Unintended Lives A Dark Comedy in One Act by William Fowkes
Description: When a man leaves his wife and young son in the suburbs to live an openly gay life back in the city, his decision affects the lives of many people. The impact of his decision on 5 of these people is revealed through a series of monologues and re-enactments.
Characters:
Brian Fields: A Wasp in his 40s.
Margaret Fields: An attractive blond woman a few years older than Brian, her ex-husband. Also a Wasp.
Hugh Bruce: A tall, large man. An ex-football player type. The same age as Margaret.
Larry Fields: A small boy, age 8 (but played by an adult).
Phyllis Hoover: A harried woman of indeterminate age.
+ 3 small parts played by the same actor who plays Larry Fields.
+ Miscellaneous voiceovers
Setting: A bare stage representing, variously, the national call center for a health insurance company, the Fields house in Bronxville, New York, a therapist's office, Hugh Bruce's weekend house in Sag Harbor, NY, the shower room at a gym, a backyard, and a bathroom.
The Time: Various points between 1993 and 1998.
